Dear Diary,

Finally, Lollapalooza India 2026 fulfilled my childhood dream – I witnessed Linkin Park in India, in our amchi Mumbai. YES, I witnessed Linkin Park (sad that it was without Chester) playing LIVE. I still can’t believe I was there. Standing right there where Mike Shinoda and Emily Armstrong were killing it with their mesmerising voice.

I was literally swamped by thousands of music lovers, and believe me, if you had asked me my 2026 goals, I would’ve laughed it off as wishful thinking. Never in my life did I think I would ever attend a Linkin Park concert. But here I am, still buzzing from what was hands down the most incredible music festival experience of my life.

Why Linkin Park In India Was A Dream Come True Moment?

Some might wonder why there’s so much hullabaloo over a concert. But for some of us, it’s layered with emotions. Let’s unravel it.

I never thought it would ever happen

Sometimes, it is best to accept the harsh reality. Growing up in India in the early 2000s meant listening to international music but accepting that it was very rare to experience it live. As a Linkin Park fan, I listened to music only in cafes, on CDs, and on YouTube. Therefore, seeing them play live was a long-lost dream and felt impossible.

As a millennial, I had accepted that I would never get to witness this moment, but their show validated all my hopes. Trust me, when I was watching them play at Lollapalooza, I wasn’t watching a concert; I was witnessing the impossible turning into reality.

Living my childhood dream

As soon as it was announced that Linkin Park would headline, hands down, I had to book my tickets. As soon as the tickets went live, I grabbed them, and thank God I did, because they sold out within hours. I couldn’t miss this moment. Afterall, I grew up listening to them and had to hear them LIVE.

The scorching sun and crowd couldn’t discourage me even for a second. Finally, when the band was on stage, the entire crowd, including me, went berserk. Seeing Mike Shinoda, Emily Armstrong, and the rest of the members LIVE was indeed surreal.

Their music has always been therapy

I need to be honest – every individual faces dark periods in life, and so did I. However, their music was a healer. Their music has been a companion when I felt lonely. Therefore, when they were playing, tears rolled down my cheeks because I was listening to the music that helped me to keep going.

Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed

When I heard the news of Chester, I learnt a life lesson – nothing in life is guaranteed. I always wished I could witness the magic of Chester live. Unfortunately, it remained a dream and an unfulfilled wish.

I spent years saying, “If Linkin Park ever comes to India, I’ll definitely go by hook or crook.” But in the back of my mind, I never truly believed it would happen. Then the news of Chester’s death came in, and I realized I’d waited too long. I’d missed my chance forever.

I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t wait for ‘next time’ or ‘when it’s more convenient’ or ‘when I have more money.’ I bought tickets immediately. Because I’d learned the painful truth – this might be the only time. This might be the last time. This might be the one chance.

I was a part of the history

Mind you, Linkin Park’s performance in India was not just a mere show – it indeed was a historic moment. Till I die, I am going to brag about this – “When Linkin Park finally performed in India, I was a part of it.”

When the countdown started, and the band was on the stage, the energy and vibe were out of this world. When I heard Emily sing, I missed Chester even more, but I also witnessed the band’s evolution in real time. Trust me, these weren’t just performances but defining moments that put India on the global map, where artists are considering it a potential market and not just a mere option.

I found people equally mad about Linkin Park like me

There’s something profoundly beautiful about standing in a crowd of strangers, because you realise we’re all connected by the same music, the same memories, the same emotions.

At Linkin Park in India, I literally met people who travelled from Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati, and other parts of India. Despite their different backgrounds, all poured their hearts out while singing the songs.

Not just this, but I witnessed people of all ages. In fact, I was accompanied by my 12-year-old nephew, who enjoys LP just as much as I do. Besides, along with my husband and brother, I headbanged like never before. Forget about me; a man joined my brother and husband and made some space for them to headbang. Only a true Linkin Park fan can relate to this.

Moreover, I was singing the songs out loud with random people I had just met. When I was feeling a bit uneasy because of the crowd, people came forward to help – that’s the tribe and unity I witnessed. That sense of community, that feeling of belonging, that’s something you can’t get from streaming music at home.

I fulfilled the promise I made to my younger self

You won’t believe it, but I had made a promise to myself – “whenever Linkin Park decides to perform in India, I am gonna be there, no matter what.” However, the “teen” me never knew that this dream would come true.

Standing at that concert, I thought about my teenage self, sitting in her bedroom, with her headphones on, dreaming of someday seeing this band live. And I realized – hell yeah, I did it. I kept the promise. I made it happen.

Attending Linkin Park in India was important because it was a promise kept. To my younger self, to the music that raised me, to the dreams that kept me going. It proved that some things are worth waiting for, that hope isn’t naive, and that the promises we make to ourselves matter.

On a parting note…

Well, these were my reasons. But I would just say that if you have missed the concert this year, don’t get discouraged. India is definitely on the map for international concerts. And when the moment comes, don’t hesitate. Don’t wait. Don’t give the reason “next time.” Because this year, it was for me. And I know, without a doubt, it will be for you too.

Dear Diary,

I’ll be honest, I jumped on the Stranger Things series bandwagon way later than everyone else. I never watched it when it was recommended to me way back. However, when the last season was released, my niece and nephews literally coerced me into watching it. In the first episode itself, I was petrified like hell and literally closed my eyes and ears to avoid watching and hearing the growls and beasts.

However, somewhere between the Demogorgons, the Upside Down, the 80s era, Hawkins, and the Mind Flayer, I found myself completely invested in the friendships on screen. Undoubtedly, Stranger Things is a beautiful ode to friendship. Having cried during the final episode – and honestly, throughout the series – I realise we could all use those friendship lessons in our own lives.

You can’t Brush Aside These Friendship Lessons from the Stranger Things series

Let me get started. I hope you can relate to it.

Real Friends Show Up, No Matter What

Remember when Will went missing in the very first episode? I was like, “What is going to happen next?” But just when the adults were busy with search parties and police procedures, the trio – Mike, Dustin, and Lucas had their own plans.

They grabbed their bikes and flashlights without a second thought. Their friend needed them, and that was enough. Seriously, how often do we say we’ll “be there” for our friends but then truly “be there” when it actually matters?

These cute kids taught me that real friendship means showing up, even when it’s scary, inconvenient, or when you have no idea what you’re doing. And you can witness this pattern repeatedly throughout the series.

Friendship Means Accepting People Exactly as They Are

Let’s start with Eleven. When the gang found her, she could barely understand or speak, was unknown about her backstory, had superpowers, and came with more emotional baggage than anyone should have to carry. She was different in every possible way. And you know what they did? They immediately made her part of their group.

The Stranger Things series showed me that true friendship isn’t about finding people who are just like you. It’s about making space for people who aren’t. Even when Will shared that he was “different,” everyone embraced him for who he was.

In a world that’s constantly trying to make us all fit into neat little boxes, pass judgmental comments, watching this group embrace their differences reminded me that the best friendships are the ones where you can be your authentic, weird, messy self.

Sometimes Love Complicates Things (And That’s Okay)

If you’ve watched the Stranger Things series, you know that romance definitely enters the picture. Mike and Eleven. Lucas and Max. Steve-Nancy-Jonathan. And honestly, some of those moments got awkward and painful to watch.

But here’s what is the highlight for me – friendships survived despite the romantic complications. Sure, there was jealousy when El came between the group. Yes, there was tension when Lucas started dating Max. The boys definitely had their moments of being absolutely ridiculous about girls. Yet they worked through it.

They communicated (eventually), apologized when they messed up, and recognized that romantic relationships don’t have to mean the end of friendships. In fact, the show taught me that strong friendships can weather changing dynamics if everyone’s willing to put in the effort.

The Best Friendships Push You to Be Brave

I hands-down accept that I am not brave, and you might relate with my statement because I mentioned above – I couldn’t take the sound and look of a Demogorgon.

Trust me, if monsters started emerging from an alternate dimension in my town, I’d probably be on the first bus out of there. But watching the Stranger Things series, I realized that bravery isn’t about being fearless – it’s about being scared and doing it anyway because your friends need you.

Think about Steve’s arc. He went from being a stereotypical popular kid to literally fighting monsters with a nail bat – not once but throughout the series. Why? Because of his friendship with Dustin and, later, Robin. These relationships transformed him into someone willing to risk everything for the people he cared about.

That’s what good friends do. They don’t eliminate your fear, but they stand beside you so you don’t have to face it alone.

It’s Okay to Outgrow Some Friendships (But Not All)

One of the most realistic aspects of the Stranger Things series is watching how the group evolves as they get older. In later seasons, we see Mike struggling to balance his relationship with El and his friendships. We watch as high school creates new social dynamics and pressures.

There’s that heartbreaking moment when Mike and Will argue, and Will accuses Mike of not caring about the party anymore. It was extremely hurtful to watch, but we gotta admit that growing up does change friendship dynamics. People develop new interests and relationships, and sometimes you drift apart.

But here’s the beautiful part – the friendships that matter find a way to adapt. The show reminded me that while some friendships are for certain seasons of life, the truly special ones evolve with you. They might look different and require more effort to maintain, but they endure.

You Need Friends Who Tell You the Truth

Lucas doesn’t get enough credit for this, but he’s consistently been the voice of reason in the group. When everyone else was blindly trusting Eleven in the first season, Lucas asked the hard questions. He wasn’t being mean, but he was simply being honest about his concerns.

The Stranger Things series taught me that the best friends aren’t always the ones who tell you what you want to hear. Sometimes, they’re the ones brave enough to tell you what you need to hear.

Whether it’s calling out bad behavior, questioning questionable decisions, or just offering a reality check, honest friends are invaluable. Remember, the legendary line – “friends don’t lie.”

Loyalty Isn’t Blind – It’s Informed and Chosen

Here’s something that really struck me while watching Stranger Things: these kids are loyal to each other, but it’s not blind loyalty. They question each other, they disagree, and they even fight sometimes. But at the end of the day, they choose each other.

That choice matters. It’s easy to be loyal when everything’s going well. It’s much harder when your friend makes mistakes, hurts you, or when sticking by them comes at a personal cost. Throughout the series, we see the group face these moments again and again, and they consistently choose their friendship.

The Final Lesson: Friendship Is Worth Fighting For

If the Stranger Things series has taught me anything, it’s that friendship – real, deep, meaningful friendship – is worth fighting for. Fighting monsters (obviously), fighting through misunderstandings, distance, change, and all the ordinary challenges that threaten to pull people apart.

In our hyperconnected world, where we have hundreds of social media “friends,” the show reminds us what friendship actually means. It’s Mike staying by Will’s side at the hospital. It’s Dustin and Steve’s unlikely but beautiful bond. It’s Max opening up to the group about her trauma. It’s all of them, again and again, choosing each other.

On a parting note…

So yeah, more than the whole supernatural thrills, the Stranger Things series kept me hooked with the awesome friendship lessons. The series reminded me to be the kind of friend who shows up, accepts people as they are, tells the truth even when it’s hard, and fights for the relationships that matter.

And maybe, just maybe, it inspired me to be a little braver in my own friendships. However, I am in no mood to deal with Demogorgons, for sure. Pssst, a golden advice – don’t miss the recent documentary titled “One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5.”

Dear Dairy,

This is indeed a very special post because I have spent my weekend watching one of the best art – Baai Tujhyapayi web series. It is a Marathi language series, and it hit me hard. When I started watching it, I never expected it to leave such a deep impression.

At first, I thought it must be a simple emotional drama revolving around women’s empowerment and all that, but as it progressed, I became increasingly involved. In this review, I want to share my thoughts on this series, explain why it resonated with me so strongly, and why it is a must-watch.

Baai Tujhyapayi Web Series: Why The Story Feels So Real?

Let’s quickly get to the point. I definitely don’t want to keep you waiting.

1. The premise of the web series

The series revolves around a fictional village called Vesaich Vadgaon. Ahilya (Sajiri Joshi), a resident of this village, wants to be a doctor. However, her ambitions get embroiled in centuries-old orthodox customs and gender-based restrictions.

In the village, there is a ritual that once the girl reaches puberty (menstruation), she has to forget her education and get married. Amidst this, how does Ahilya challenge these taboos? And does she succeed – forms the crux of the story.

2. Less drama

The first thing that struck me about the Baai Tujhyapayi web series is its overall ambience. The series doesn’t try to be dramatic. Instead, it focuses on more natural emotions and everyday situations. Not a minute did I feel like I was watching actors; instead, it felt like I was watching real people.

3. Sincerity in story writing

The entire story of the web series is sincere and free from boredom. Additionally, the story unfolds at a pace that allows you to thoroughly understand each character. Nothing feels rushed or over-the-top. Instead, the connection of the lead characters, their emotional bonding, and the story is beautifully portrayed.

4. Superlative performances

A series like this can only work if you have a strong army of actors. These actors don’t just act, but put their heart and soul into it. That conviction you’ll find in the lead actors – Kshitee Jog and Sajiri Joshi. They don’t just shine – they literally outshine.

Their emotion on the screen are so raw, which forced me to pause, take a breath, and I literally had to replay to feel the feelings all over again. Besides, their chemistry – Kshitee and Sajiri’s – is something you have to watch!

5. Beautiful representation of relationships

The bonding between father-daughter, mother-daughter, and the unbreakable friendship is something to watch out for! They were so real and relatable that I started missing the bonding with my friends.

6. The strength of the characters’ arcs

Each character – whether they have a brief or an extended role – has evolved beautifully. The journey of every character is unique, full of warmth, and gives a sense of belonging.

Why Baai Tujhyapayi Web Series is a Must-Watch?

Lately, I have seen web series that are full of gore, violence, bloodshed, and sexual content. Sometimes, these factors act as a detour from the core of the issue. However, in this world of twists, unnecessary glamour, and shock value, Baai Tujhyapayi web series stands out. The reason is that it focuses on intense storytelling and emotions.

The dialogues are meaningful and impactful. The cinematography captures the perfect backdrop of every scene and also highlights the beauty and emotional tone of the story. The background is subtle, and what do I say about the direction? Nipun Dharmadhikari has done a fantabulous job.

It’s not just him, but without the lead characters, the web series would be empty and soulless. The chemistry between Sajiri Joshi and Kshitee Jog is simply outstanding. I would especially applaud Kshitee Jog because I have always been a massive fan of hers since her television days. And every art form of hers – be it a serial, movie, or web series – she does justice to the characters. Indeed, a winning stroke for her!

All in all, all this blends well and creates a warm, emotional viewing experience. But I would like to point out the pacing of the series. Several times, the series lag and become uninteresting. However, Baai Tujhyapayi is far from boring and doesn’t drag for even a second.

Thus, making it an interesting and irresistible watch! I must admit that such bold and sensitive topics can be handled only by Marathi Cinema, for instance, films like Jogwaa, Court, etc.

Who Should Watch This Series?

Actually, anyone can watch this series. But still making your task easier by listing some preferences.

People who are emotional and love character-driven series

Someone who is okay with simple yet powerful narratives

Prefers family-oriented but real-life situations

Young girls and mothers must watch this series

However, if you are someone who likes action-packed web series, then give this series a pass. This series focuses on emotions, depth, and storytelling rather than some gimmicky solution.

Final Verdict

I must admit, Baai Tujhyapayi web series is a gem that is both relatable and an eye-opener. It is a perfect blend of excellent direction and strong acting. Time and again, it reminds you of the importance of storytelling.

It’s about connecting with characters who remind you of people from your life. So, for me, it’s a must-watch, and I highly recommend it – no wonder it deserves all the appreciation.

Dear Diary,

After Tom Hanks, the one actor who totally blows my mind off is Leonardo DiCaprio. Due to this very reason, I decided to list the best movies of Leonardo DiCaprio. His versatility, intensity in his acting, and his aura are irresistible. When I first watched Titanic, I always felt he was a “chocolate boy.” But when I started watching all the other movies, I realised he is more than that!

Whether he is playing a con artist, a ruthless stockbroker, or a man lost in the wilderness, he has a way of pulling me into his world. I’ve literally binge-watched some of his movies, and every time I watch them, I notice something new. And hands down, that’s the beauty of Leonardo DiCaprio.

So, without further ado, let me take you on a sweet ride through the best movies of Leonardo DiCaprio, which showcase his acting prowess.

My Personal Favourite And Some of The Best Movies of Leonardo DiCaprio

1. Blood Diamond

This movie had to be first up on the list. I must have seen this film more than 50 times, and I have cried my heart out every single time. Set against the war-torn backdrop of Sierra Leone, Blood Diamond follows the story of Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a fisherman who is forcefully employed at the diamond mines and is also searching for his family.

Further, he meets Danny Archer (DiCaprio) – a smuggler who is engulfed with greed but somehow strikes an unlikely bond with Solomon. What makes this film awesome is the social message it showcases. Leonardo’s accent, his grit and his evolution from being selfish to selfless are applaudable. By the end, I was crying endlessly.

2. Shutter Island

When my brother insisted that I watch this movie, I thought, ‘I am not into these thriller dramas,’ but he persisted, and I finally watched the film. I would have been an idiot if I had missed this film.

This film left me perplexed due to its gripping premise. Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) is a U.S. Marshal who travels to Ashecliffe Hospital to investigate a disappearance. As he digs deeper, new revelations emerge.

From the very first frame, the atmosphere is unsettling, and every time a new twist came, it left me guessing. You have to watch out for the climax; it will leave you stunned. DiCaprio’s performance has many layers, wherein he is at times challenging, paranoid, and vulnerable.

3. The Revenant

This was the movie that finally gave DiCaprio his most-awaited Oscar, and boy, he deserves all the applause. Sometimes, I wonder how a human can be so talented as to portray any role with finesse.

The Revenant is indeed one of the best movies of Leonardo DiCaprio, which is brutal, beautiful, and emotional at the same time. It follows the story of Hugh Glass, who is attacked by a grizzly bear and must crawl through snow, fighting for survival and battling treacherous terrain.

He has little dialogue, but DiCaprio beautifully conveys pain and determination through his eyes and physicality. Its sheer brilliance, and I would specifically mention the bear attack, is the most haunting. It looks so real that it still gives me the chills.

4. Inception

When it is Christopher Nolan, it has to be an out-of-the-box storytelling. Dreams within dreams, reality-bending in a way that no one can imagine, is something mind-boggling. And the whole concept comes alive with DiCaprio’s portrayal of Dom Cobb, who has a troubled past.

While all my friends narrated to me about the plot, concept, and sci-fi spectacle, I was very much invested in DiCaprio’s superlative acting of emotional struggle. That action, raw human emotions, and storyline are what make this film a masterpiece.

5. The Wolf of Wall Street

This is one film that showcases the wild side of Leonardo DiCaprio. He portrays the role of Jordan Belfort, and you see him as a hilarious, outrageous, and at times disturbing figure. I couldn’t believe the energy he imparted in every scene – whether it was giving a motivational speech or partying like there was no tomorrow.

Again, the layers of acting are a must-watch. DiCaprio has balanced comedy with darkness. I laughed, at times got angry, and I agree that no one could pull off this performance better than DiCaprio.

6. Catch Me If You Can

This was the second film I had watched of DiCaprio when I was a teenager. First, of course, was Titanic, and Catch Me If You Can made me fall in love with two actors – Tom Hanks and DiCaprio.

This film is a pure joyride, where DiCaprio plays the role of Frank Abagnale Jr., a con artist scamming his way through various jobs, including pilot, doctor, and lawyer. He is charming, and every time I watch this film, I find myself smiling, looking at the effortless and boyish charisma of DiCaprio.

Besides, the cat-and-mouse game between Hanks and DiCaprio is something you shouldn’t miss at all. I suppose this is one of those movies with DiCaprio, where he portrays a light-hearted character, unlike his more dramatic and heavier roles.

7. The Departed

When there is a multi-star ensemble, it is very easy to get overshadowed. Albeit this, DiCaprio shines throughout this film, which also features stalwarts like Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg. DiCaprio’s role as Billy Costigan has great depth because he is an undercover agent in a dangerous mafia world, constantly facing the threat of exposure.

I must admit, this is one of the best movies of Leonardo DiCaprio, as he is incredibly intense in the film. I could feel his anxiety, his fear, and his desperation in every scene. Besides, the cat-and-mouse chase between him, Nicholson, and Damon gives you perfect nail-biting moments from start to end. It’s gritty, violent, and DiCaprio shines throughout.

8. Django Unchained

Now, this version of DiCaprio I have never seen before. At times, I was so angry with his character, but that’s the beauty of his acting. He brings out real emotions. In this film, he plays the role of Calvin J. Candie, a sadistic and cruel plantation owner. He is the villain that you would never want to meet in life.

Of course, watching him in this role was uncomfortable, but that’s what made it more brilliant. Besides, he inevitably embraced those villainy vibes that you can’t take your eyes off. It truly takes guts to get into a character that is so spiteful and yet deliver one of the finest and memorable roles of the decade.

9. The Great Gatsby

When I first saw DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, it reminded me of his aura and those bewildering looks. The Great Gatsby is a visually stunning film that follows the story of Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), who becomes drawn to the past and lifestyle of millionaire Jay Gatsby amid the extravagant parties and glitz. DiCaprio gave the character depth beyond the glitz and glamour.

His portrayal of Gatsby was mysterious, romantic, and tragically flawed. What I loved most in the film was the way he made me sympathise with Gatsby’s relentless pursuit of a dream that was doomed from the start. The movie might divide audiences, but for me, DiCaprio’s performance made it unforgettable.

10. The Beach (2000)

This film urges me to visit Thailand at least once. But jokes apart, another intense portrayal that needs a standing ovation. But hang on, this one is a bit of a cult classic that follows a young traveller, Richard, who stumbles upon a hidden utopia in Thailand, only to discover that paradise isn’t what it seems.

There are dark shades to this place, and as the film progresses, they are revealed, making it heart-wrenching to watch. Amidst this, one thing I enjoyed the most was seeing a younger DiCaprio in a role (Richard) that was adventurous yet introspective. The film captured the wanderlust and recklessness of youth, while also diving deeper into darker themes of obsession and disillusionment.

And all these facets can be seen through DiCaprio’s acting. For some, it may not be his most polished film, but for me, it’s definitely one of the best movies of Leonardo DiCaprio, and I appreciate it for that.

On a parting note…

Looking at these movies, I realise how beautifully Leonardo DiCaprio has transitioned. He portrayed a coy romantic boy in Titanic to a ruthless, sadistic character in Django Unchained. I have realised he is not afraid to take risks. Instead, he steps into roles that challenge both him and his audience. Besides, each film shows a different side of his acting – romance, vulnerability, madness, disillusion and much more.

Well, if you haven’t seen any of the best movies of Leonardo DiCaprio, then consider this article a sign to watch them ASAP!

Dear Diary,

What comes into your mind when you read the title, “Do You Wanna Partner”? A romantic saga or something that talks about relationships? Yes, I had exactly the same notion, and that got me curious to watch this series. And this light-hearted series was a nice watch. Let me elaborate more about it.

Do You Wanna Partner – What’s the Plot?

The series revolves around two friends – Shikha (Tamannaah Bhatia) and Anahita (Diana Penty) – who are unhappy with their professional lives. They both come together and decide to start their own craft beer. Reason – Shikha’s father, played by Indraneil Sengupta, always wanted to have his own brand of craft beer. However, he fails.

Hence, Shikha always wanted to fulfil his dream. Soon, both friends come together, and the real struggle begins in a male-dominated industry filled with dubious families, cynical investors, and competitive hurdles.

However, with many obstacles, they finally find a brewmaster, Bobby (Nakuul Mehta), and the brewing begins, and “Jugaaro” is born. Gradually, the girls encounter a series of problems, and one of them is Laila, a loan shark played by Shweta Tiwari.

The problem cycle doesn’t end here. Their personal differences, ego, love life, and finances create a ruckus in the friendship. But how they navigate through all these problems forms the crux of the series.

The special appearance of Anupam Mittal in the show is like icing on the cake!

What Did I Like About The Series?

For me, the best part of the series is the bonding between the leads and the storyline. Their banter never felt forceful. Instead, even the smallest moments between them carried a natural charm. However, the second best part about the series is Jaaved Jaaferi, who plays the role of Dylan Thomas.

His presence shows that a seasoned actor can make a difference onscreen. Every time he appeared, I was so happy to see him because he made a difference in the storyline. I’m absolutely thrilled about OTT platforms! They’ve given incredible actors like Jaaved Jaaferi a second chance to show the world how truly power-packed their talent is.

Apart from this, the struggle of newbies in this competitive world is real, and the series “Do You Wanna Partner” beautifully highlights the same. Loved the humour in the series, which has a tinge of sarcasm. I feel people should watch the struggles that go into building a business.

But you know what, the surprise package amidst this is Diana Penty. Frankly, I always found her acting monotonous, and she always portrayed serious roles. But this role was meant for her, and she has done a fabulous job. From being serious and competitive to a loving friend, she expresses her emotions, and it is good to watch!

And then, not to forget, there’s Neeraj Kabi too, who plays a ruthless and competitive business tycoon. There’s one scene that stuck with me, and here it is!

What I Didn’t Like About The Series?

In the above section, I focused on the positive aspects of Do You Wanna Partner and mentioned a few characters. However, there are more talented actors like Shweta Tiwari, Rannvijay Singha, and Ayesha Raza, whose performances are noteworthy but unfortunately reduced to meagre roles.

Yes, and sometimes the plot tends to stretch unnecessarily. The show also emphasises how newbies can be illogical and impulsive. But honestly, I don’t think that any entrepreneur with that much experience would make such obvious blunders. Even if it is done for fun, I accept, but that looks extremely forceful.

And frankly, I was not impressed with Tamannaah Bhatia’s acting. It looks monotonous throughout the series. Also, I was never a fan of Nakuul Mehta since his “television” days, and even in this series, he failed to impress. I feel his acting is stretched and over-the-top.

As I mentioned, the supporting cast had the potential to shine, but the makers never gave them the chance or the depth. Most of them looked like props rather than people with their own stories to tell. Some of the scenes and situations were damn predictable.

Also, the storyline is new and refreshing but it could have been better.

Final Verdict

Do You Wanna Partner is a fun, breezy watch that showcases, “life shouldn’t be taken seriously.” Therefore, if you are someone who doesn’t want to invest too much mental strength and is looking for a light watch, watch this series.

It is undoubtedly not perfect, and frankly, I had a lot of expectations because women-centric movies and series are my favourite. Besides, I am already aware of the negative reviews this series is receiving. Still, it is a comfort watch—a break from the serious and gore-filled content that’s prevalent on the internet.

Dear Diary,

Regional films have captivated me because I have recently watched some of the best Tamil and Malayalam movies. There was a time when I never liked them because I always felt that they had unnecessary drama and action.

However, while encountering some sensible films, I began to gain interest. One by one, I started adding them to my watchlist, and now I am a fan. Thus, why not share some of the great movies with the world? So, here they are –

My Favourite List Of The Best Tamil And Malayalam Movies

Hold on tight because a wave of great cinema is coming your way. If you’re worried about understanding the films, hang on – they are equipped with subtitles.

1. Maharaja (Tamil)

Where to watch: Netflix

Oh my, this film had to be at the top of my list of the best Tamil and Malayalam movies. I am personally a huge fan of Vijay Sethupathi, especially after watching Vikram, which I have included in another blog post on South Indian films.

The movie revolves around a man who is relentlessly searching for his stolen dustbin named Lakshmi. What follows next? Does he find the dustbin? What secrets get revealed is something you must watch for yourself.

Crazy acting by all the actors and kudos to Nithilan Saminathan, who has written and directed the film.

2. Officer on Duty (Malayalam)

Where to watch: Netflix

Usually, I’m not a huge fan of action films, but I had heard so much about this one that I had to watch it. I made the right decision because this film is a must-watch for everyone.

I was unaware that I would stare at the screen and hold my breath at every twist in the plot. After watching numerous Tamil and Malayalam films, I’ve noticed that these thrillers possess a quiet intensity that unfolds in the most unexpected ways.

Moving on, the story revolves around a demoted police officer who is investigating a counterfeit jewellery racket. Unbeknownst to him, he becomes entangled in a larger crime that also involves his family and life.

Amidst all this, the actor that I loved the most is Vishak Nair. You’ll hate him whenever he is on the screen, but I think that’s what good acting means – standing true to its meaning.

3. Bramayugam (Malayalam)

Where to watch: SonyLIV

Frankly, not a fan of horror films because they give me nightmares. I know it sounds funny, but truth be told. However, this film kept me hooked until the end, and what a watch – thrilling and intriguing.

Well, the movie is set in a mystical past. As it unfolds, it delves into superstition, folklore, and dark rituals within an ancient household.

With Mammootty in a haunting role, this psychological horror-thriller leaves you spellbound with its stunning cinematography and crisp direction.

If you love horror, you can’t miss this film for sure.

4. Gargi (Tamil)

Where to watch: SonyLIV

I often saw Sai Pallavi trending on X and Instagram and wondered what made her so special. After watching this film, I realised how special this actress is. She is far unique than these glam dolls and her acting is mind-blowing.

Coming to the plot of the film, it is a legal drama that revolves around a middle-class schoolteacher named Gargi. She is fighting a lone battle to prove her father’s innocence, who is accused in a shocking criminal case.

Gargi is a profoundly emotional courtroom drama that questions social stigma and the cost of standing up for the truth. However, the real essence lies in the film’s climax, and I am sure it will shock you, just as it did for me. It was unexpected and made the movie watchable.

Some films make me stop and breathe, and Gargi is one of them. It’s brave, beautiful, and painfully honest. When the credits rolled, I sat in silence, wondering what a masterpiece this is!

Some stories deserve a standing ovation, and this film is one of them. Not to forget, take a bow, Gautham Ramachandran, for directing a heart-wrenching film and also writing it along with Hariharan Raju.

5. Aavesham (Malayalam)

Where to watch: JioHotstar & Prime Video

Fahadh Faasil is undoubtedly my favourite actor, especially after watching the film Vikram.

Literally, Fahadh has carried the entire movie on his shoulders. It has everything – action, attitude, and just the right dose of madness. Sometimes, you want a film to be fun and frolic, and this one understood the assignment.

Moving on to the plot, the film follows the story of a hot-headed local gangster who becomes entangled with a group of mischievous college students. The film is loud, funny, musical and packed with mass moments, sheerly driven by Fahadh Faasil’s quirky performance.

Of course, the boys have done a great job, but Fahadh steals the show, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

6. Thudarum (Malayalam)

Where to watch: JioHotstar

Let me be very honest, I was looking for a film and least expected to watch Thudaram. But good god, I did because this film is a masterpiece. I now understand why people are so enamoured with Mohanlal and literally go gaga about him.

This tender slice-of-life drama explores the beautiful intergenerational relationships, fading traditions, and the subtle push and pull of family bonds in a small town.

This action-thriller keeps you hooked till the end, and the twists keep you guessing – WHAT NEXT! It is quiet, emotional, and beautifully rooted in local culture.

The story revolves around Benz and his love for his black Ambassador Mark 1. He never lets anyone touch his car, but his son takes it for a joyride and crashes. This event infuriates Benz, and he slaps his son.

Benz soon travels to Chennai to attend a funeral, and while returning, he is informed that the police have impounded his car. What follows next is something you must watch for yourself.

Mohanlal is a treat for the eyes, and his intense acting is the main highlight. Additionally, I especially liked the cinematography by Shaji Kumar, who makes every frame enticing.

7. Rekhachithram (Malayalam)

Where to watch: SonyLIV

If you fancy a movie that pulls you in like a maze, then Rekhachithram should be on your watchlist. It seriously kept me guessing, and I love how the story threads tied up in the end. It is a brilliant piece of art.

This suspenseful crime thriller revolves around a police officer who takes charge of a suicide case. Slowly, the investigation leads to the disappearance of a young girl from a filming location. What follows next is an accidental discovery and a murder mystery.

The unfolding of the mystery is the most incredible part, and Jofin T. Chacko directed it very well. No wonder this movie received such positive reviews.

8. Sookshmadarshini (Malayalam)

Where to watch: JioHotstar

Sometimes I pick a movie just for its name, and Sookshmadarshini was a great fit; frankly, it didn’t disappoint. There’s something delicate about how Malayalam films talk about human emotions. A gentle reminder that cinema doesn’t always have to scream to be heard.

The film, a comedy-mystery-thriller, focuses on Priya’s (Nazriya Nazim) perspective, balancing family, work, and the invisible burdens that women silently carry.

Amidst all this, she is an “observer” and her observation helps in unfolding a murder mystery. The premise of the film is simple yet thought-provoking.

Nazriya Nazim is the highlight of this film, and I am damn sure you’ll be shocked just like me when the mystery unfolds.

9. Manjummel Boys (Malayalam)

Where to watch: JioHotstar

I am sure everyone would agree with me that what’s friendship without a bit of chaos? But what if this chaos turns deadly and life-threatening? Undoubtedly, Manjummel Boys is a rush of nostalgia and adventure.

When the film began, it made me miss my gang, our reckless plans, and our growing-up days. But when a cloud of darkness dooms, this friendship can become your biggest saviour.

Based on true events, Manjummel Boys tells the story of a group of friends from Kochi who go on a trip to Kodaikanal. During the excursion, one of them accidentally gets trapped in the Guna Caves, and the real story begins to unfold.

Furthermore, the story weaves a tale of survival, adventure, courage, friendship, and the lengths people go to save one another.

10. Meiyazhagan (Tamil)

Where to watch: Netflix

If you have seen Roja and Bombay, then I assume you must have been in love with Arvind Swamy and his charm at that time. I mean, at least I was! Meiyazhagan forms such a cute ambience that even I was unaware of.

While watching this film, the memories of my rural hometown came rushing back. I felt like going back home. The film weaves the stories of family, tradition, and the unspoken bonds that unite us all.

So, the film narrates a heartwarming rural drama about a young man named Arulmozhi Varman “Arul”. When young, he leaves his hometown vowing never to turn back. However, a cousin’s wedding forces him back to his hometown, and he is torn between his family’s traditional expectations and his modern aspirations.

During the wedding, he meets all his relatives and also an unfamiliar relative. What follows next is the joyride of relationships, roots, and the gentle conflicts that define village life.

Karthi and Arvind Swamy have nailed it in the film. But it’s the direction by C. Prem Kumar that has my heart. Interestingly, he has written it as well, and I must admit, he has done an outstanding job.

11. Neru (Malayalam)

Where to watch: JioHotstar

And finally, one of the best films that stands out in this list of best Tamil and Malayalam movies is Neru. A courtroom drama that made me clench my fists and nod in silent agreement. It reminded me time and again that justice in life doesn’t come easy, but it’s worth hoping for.

This courtroom thriller, directed by Jeethu Joseph, will leave you hooked till the end. It revolves around a visually impaired woman named Sara who seeks justice after being raped.

Due to her impairment, the police are unable to identify the culprit. Soon, she sculpts his face, and the police nab a suspect and then the real battle ensues. The film addresses systemic loopholes, victim shaming, and the determination required to confront powerful wrongdoers.

Priyamani, Mohanlal, and Anaswara Rajan have delivered top-notch performances. Many times, I had goosebumps as the mystery unfolded. Truly, a must-watch.

Over to you…

Well, I have compiled my list of the best Tamil and Malayalam movies. If I have missed anything, then I am yet to watch these movies for sure. I admit that my perception of movies from the South as being overly dramatic and action-packed is undoubtedly wrong, as these movies challenge my perception.

If you’re reading this, let me tell you: if you’re looking for your next great watch, start here. Maybe you’ll find a piece of you, too. Don’t forget to bookmark this list of best Tamil and Malayalam movies and share it with your movie buddies!

Dear Diary,

Over the years, I have witnessed various web series and movies with LGBTQ characters, which have undergone significant evolution. It’s good to see that there’s room for bold storytelling, thus paving the way for broader awareness, acceptance, and advocacy.

Therefore, through this article, I thought, why not delve into notable LGBTQ characters appearing in movies and web series, highlighting the diversity of stories they bring to the screen? Let’s get started.

Which Are The Web Series And Movies With LGBTQ Characters?

The refreshing shift across various forms of media is like a beacon of positivity for the LGBTQ community. The entertainment fraternity has aesthetically embraced queer narratives with sensitivity and authenticity. Here are the web series and films with LGBTQ characters you must watch!

1. Kapoor & Sons

Character: Rahul played by Fawad Khan

This family drama had to be on my list first. Firstly, I never thought Rahul, portrayed by Fawad Khan, would be a gay character. Secondly, the inclusion of the role and storyline would be so subtle and seamless.

Truly, the film handles the subject with tenderness, showing how familial dynamics shift when secrets come to light – a theme that is indeed relatable.

2. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

Character: Sweety Chaudhary played by Sonam Kapoor

This is one film by Sonam Kapoor that I truly loved watching – obviously after Neerja. I never knew she could pull off this character with finesse.

Well, the film follows the story of a woman struggling to express her sexuality in a conservative environment. Undoubtedly, the film’s tagline, “The most unexpected romance of the year,” speaks volumes about its trailblazing narrative.

3. Badhaai Do

Character: Shardul Thakur played by Rajkummar Rao and Sumi played by Bhumi Pednekar

Rajkummar Rao is known for pulling off any character, and in film, he does exactly that. This comedy-drama revolves around a couple, played by Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, who are in a lavender marriage.

They both have different love interests, which are well hidden from the family. The movie beautifully chronicles their struggle while managing their married life. Indeed, the film balances humour and poignant moments to advocate for acceptance.

4. Made in Heaven

Character: Karan played by Arjun Mathur

This Amazon Prime series had to be on my list of web series and movies with LGBTQ characters. The LGBTQ themes are beautifully integrated through the character of Karan, who happens to be a gay wedding planner.

His storyline explores societal prejudices and personal struggles with grace. The silver lining was the introduction of Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju as Meher Chaudhry in season 2.

5. Angry Indian Goddesses

Character: Freida De Silva played by Sarah-Jane Dias

When I first heard about this movie, I thought it would be just another portrayal of girls having fun, partying, and all that. But this film turned out to be much more.

The friends – played by Anushka Manchanda, Sandhya Mridul, Amrit Maghera, and Pavleen Gujral – come together to celebrate the bachelorette party of their friend, portrayed by Sarah-Jane Dias.

Gradually, they discover that she’s getting married to Nargis, played by Tannishtha Chatterjee. As the story unfolds, we witness their evolving friendships, hidden desires, fears, and the strength of their bond.

6. Dear Dad

Character: Nitin Swaminathan played by Arvind Swamy

I started watching this film for one reason—Arvind Swamy. I’ve been a die-hard fan since Roja, so I couldn’t miss this one. But what truly surprised me was the film’s theme, which revolves around a tender father-son relationship where the father reveals a life-changing truth about himself.

During a road trip with his teenage son, he confesses that he is gay. What follows isn’t just the shock and confusion of a son trying to process this revelation but also a heartfelt journey of acceptance, identity, and redefining what it means to be family.

The film handles this delicate subject with grace and warmth, making it an emotional yet necessary watch in today’s world.

7. Super Deluxe

Character: Shilpa aka Manickam played by Vijay Sethupathi

Recently, I started watching a lot of Tamil and Malayalam films, and I couldn’t miss watching Super Deluxe. The film tells four interwoven stories, but one story that particularly caught my attention was Shilpa’s.

The story revolves around Manickam, played by Vijay Sethupathi, who arrives from Mumbai as a transgender woman named Shilpa. Shilpa faces humiliation and harassment, but her son Rasukutty is the light at the end of the tunnel. What follows next forms the crux of this story, which is a must-watch!

8. Murder in Mahim

Character: Sunil played by Rohan Verma

This web series is based on the novel by Jerry Pinto, wherein it highlights a gripping crime thriller that explores queer identities through a series of murders in Mumbai. However, as the series progresses, you come to understand the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community.

It also reminds us about their battle to find acceptance and their hidden desires, and amidst this unfolds the emotional story between an estranged father and his gay son.

9. City of Dreams

Character: Poornima Gaikwad played by Priya Bapat

This political drama subtly touches on LGBTQ themes through character subplots portrayed by Priya Bapat. The storyline explores a lesbian relationship, challenging societal taboos.

It also highlights the internal conflicts faced by queer individuals, especially when they live under the shadow of political power and social expectations.

10. Taali

Character: Gauri played by Sushmita Sen

I was so excited about this film because it stars Sushmita Sen. Well, the film is based on the life of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, played by Sushmita Sen.

The film highlights the biographical drama showcasing her struggles, societal resistance, and fierce advocacy for transgender rights, especially in securing the right to motherhood and dignity.

11. Brokeback Mountain

Character: Ennis Del Mar played by Heath Ledger and Jack Twist by Jake Gyllenhaal

Indeed, it is one of the best movies with LGBTQ characters. I especially liked this film because it featured my favourite actors – Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, and, of course, Anne Hathaway too.

Directed by Ang Lee, this groundbreaking film follows the emotional and forbidden romance between two cowboys over two decades. Every frame and act is just superlative as it explores repression, longing, and the costs of living a closeted life in a conservative society.

12. Laurence Anyways

Character: Laurence played by Melvil Poupaud

I watched this film at a film festival around 2013. For me, the concept of transgender women was new. Although I was aware of it, there was never an open dialogue, and moreover, it was marred by misconceptions.

However, this film opened my eyes and changed my perspective. I feel I started to understand the internal conflicts of the LGBTQ community – maybe not much, but at least a little.

The film chronicles the decade-long journey of a transgender woman and her relationship with her girlfriend. The film brought tears to my eyes because it is an emotionally stunning and visually captivating portrayal of the pain, beauty, and resilience of gender transition and love.

13. The Danish Girl

Character: Lili Elbe played by Eddie Redmayne

This movie was recommended to me by many friends, and alas, when I watched it, it left me awestruck. After watching this film, I realised what a fantastic actor Eddie Redmayne is.

This historical drama tells the story of Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of gender confirmation surgery. The film explores the complexities of identity, transformation, and acceptance, with a profound emotional core centred on love and partnership.

14. The Imitation Game

Character: Alan Turing played by Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch won my heart through his portrayal of Sherlock, and hence, I had to watch The Imitation Game, which focuses on mathematician Alan Turing.

The film highlights the tragic injustice he faced for being gay despite his invaluable contributions to WWII. It’s a powerful reminder of the societal prejudice against LGBTQ individuals, even in the face of brilliance.

15. Boys Don’t Cry

Character: Brandon Teena played by Hilary Swank

Last on the list of web series and movies with LGBTQ characters is Boys Don’t Cry. While watching this film, be sure to have a box of tissues nearby. It is based on the life of Brandon Teena, portrayed by Hilary Swank, a trans man brutally murdered in Nebraska.

The humiliation, the themes of gender identity, violence, and the desperate need for acceptance are heart-wrenching to watch. Hilary Swank is outstanding in the film, which is why her performance earned her an Academy Award.

16. Qissa

Character: Kanwar played by Tillotama Shome

This film is a must-watch for sure! Directed by Anup Singh, Qissa is a haunting Punjabi-language drama set in post-Partition India. It tells the story of Umber Singh played by Irrfan Khan, a Sikh patriarch obsessed with having a male heir.

When his fourth child is born a girl, he raises her as a boy, naming her Kanwar played by the talented Tillotama Shome. As Kanwar grows up grappling with identity, love, and truth, the film unfolds into a powerful exploration of gender dysphoria, parental control, and societal denial.

Qissa is both poetic and tragic—an unforgettable tale of a soul torn between who it is and what the world demands it to be.

17. Maja Ma

Character: Pallavi Patel played by Madhuri Dixit

I never expected Madhuri Dixit to take up such a bold role. I grew up watching her dance and play romantic roles, but this film reveals a different side of her acting. Well, Maja Ma revolves around a seemingly traditional homemaker who comes out as a lesbian.

The film challenges stereotypes, explores self-realisation later in life, and highlights the emotional and societal complexities of being queer in a conservative family setting. Although the movie was a dud, it is included in this list because of Madhuri.

Over to you…

These web series and movies with LGBTQ characters are proof that cinema is evolving. While the challenges continue, the courage and creativity of filmmakers continue to bring meaningful stories to the forefront.

As audiences embrace these narratives, the ripple effect of acceptance and understanding grows, transforming not just the screen but society itself. These films and series remind us that love, in all its forms, deserves celebration and recognition.

Dear Diary,

I often find myself lost in fictional worlds that look so real. I have realised that dystopian movies and series have this haunting effect on me. After every movie I watch, I feel that humanity is cracking and diminishing in slow motion.

They are entertaining, eye-opening, and whisper truths, but they can also be disturbing and provoking. Thus, with this thought, I felt like penning down such movies and series that have left an impact on me. Instead, they have taught me a lesson that if we are not careful, things can take an absurd turn.

Dystopian Movies and Series That Intend to Warn Us

Put on your seatbelts as you are all set to glimpse the cruel future.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road

Every time I watch this film, my heart is literally in my throat. I must highlight that this movie is not for the faint-hearted. It is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland ruled by tyrants who oppress people for food and water.

While watching every scene, you will definitely feel an adrenaline rush because of the heart-thumping music, crazy cinematography, and brilliant action sequences. Amidst this are the two prime characters—Max (Tom Hardy) and Furiosa (Charlize Theron), and their struggle for survival is terrifying yet fascinating.

2. Westworld

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here and it is all set to rule us, and that’s exactly what Westworld is all about. The series revolves around a fictional and technologically advanced themed amusement park populated by android “hosts.”

The park is meant for high-paying guests who can indulge in their wildest fantasies without getting harmed by the hosts – because they are programmed in that way.

Later on, the series takes a massive turn, and the conflict between the creators and the creation, the fight between freedom and control, starts. It is a heart-wrenching tale, especially watching it in the world of AI.

3. The Last of Us

What if the world is grappled with a deadly fungal infection, and very few humans are left to survive? Sounds creepy, right? I had exactly the same feeling while watching this series.

The cities have crumbled, and there’s no life left, but amidst all the darkness is the bond of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), which brought tears to my eyes. The second season of this series was recently released, and I am all geared up to watch it.

4. A Quiet Place

This movie is a stark reminder that silence can have loud repercussions. A Quiet Place revolves around a world where the aliens have captured Earth and are sensitive to sound, which can lead to death.

Hence, the movie’s name because even a whisper is equivalent to death. Thus, watching the family’s silent struggle to survive, I realised how we ignore the power of sound and connection. Imagine living in a world where a monster cannot see but hear you.

5. The Island

This movie made me awestruck, literally. It revolves around a place where residents have to live under strict rules. They are told that the outside world is highly contaminated and they are safe only in the facility.

However, there is a lottery every week, and whoever wins gets a chance to step out of the facility – the island. Gradually, you get to know the dark secrets of these residents and the island. I cannot reveal much because there’s no fun in it. You gotta watch it to know all about it.

6. Dune Movie Series

I just cannot miss having this name on the list of dystopian movies and series. The start of this movie seems slow, but later, when it catches pace, it’s thrilling to watch the happenings. The Dune saga is set thousands of years in the future of the human race.

The film revolves around the endless desert of the planet Arrakis, where a rare substance called “spice” is gold. This substance is so powerful that it fuels space travel and extends life. The person who controls spice has control over the universe.

At the heart of this battle is Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who is pulled into the world of war, betrayal, and prophecy. As great houses fight for power, Paul uncovers his destiny, which can either make or break the universe.

7. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

What if humans were not at the top of the pyramid? Planet of the Apes movie series showcases a world where apes have evolved and taken over the human race. In this, I especially love the premise of Rise of the Planet of the Apes starring James Franco and Frieda Pinto.

The film revolves around a young ape named Caesar who inherits his mother’s intelligence. The reason is that a drug meant to cure Alzheimer’s is tested on her, which increases her intelligence.

As Caesar grows, he becomes highly intelligent, but he is taken to an animal shelter, where he meets other apes. What happens next, and what’s in the next series? To know this, you must watch the movie series.

But let me tell you, the film series highlights that humans are outsiders, and power can corrupt any species—not just humans.

8. In Time

Imagine stopping ageing at 25 and having a timer on your forearm that highlights how much time you have left to live. As soon as the timer reaches zero, time out, and you are dead. Scary, isn’t it?

That’s the premise of In Time, where time is the currency and New Greenwich is the wealthiest area where the residents are immortal. In order to safeguard time, the rich keep increasing the prices for the poor to die.

Fortunately, Will Salas (Justin Timberlake), a factory worker from the poorest time zone Dayton, gains more time than he ever imagined. But soon, he faces the cruelty of the system and becomes a rebel to expose it.

While watching this film, I literally felt how harsh the world is to the oppressed and how poorly we value our lives. The world is an unfair place where survival is sold to the highest bidder.

9. WALL-E

In this, Earth has gone silent, uninhabited, forgotten by humans and covered in trash. And in these ruins lives a tiny robot named WALL-E, who cleans up the mess one at a time and has lost hope in loneliness.

However, one day, a robot named EVE lands on Earth and WALL-E’s life changes. Thereafter, the journey begins to save the human race. Interestingly, the movie highlights some crucial topics like sedentary lifestyle, adverse human-environmental impact, waste management, etc.

10. Z for Zachariah

Last but not least in the dystopian movies and series is Z for Zachariah. The film revolves around only three characters: Ann Burden (Margot Robbie), John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and Caleb (Chris Pine).

Ann survives a nuclear apocalypse and thinks she is the sole survivor. However, she meets another survivor, John, and they quickly bond. Soon, a third survivor – Caleb enters, and what begins as hope quickly turns into jealousy, mistrust, and survival.

The film is not about rebuilding the world but holding onto the last pieces of the human race. This film taught me how bonding is important along with survival.

Over to you…

One thing that these dystopian movies and series have taught me is the grim future. These movies aren’t about escapism; they are warnings in disguise, which can become a strange kind of hope if we decide to look at it that way. Because though the world ends, love, loyalty, and the fight for survival stay forever.

Dear Diary,

After a sabbatical, I am back reviewing and diving into the entertainment world. This weekend, I decided to watch the most anticipated Paatal Lok Season 2 for my favourite, Hathi Ram Chaudhary, aka Jaideep Ahlawat. The funny thing is, I am a late entrant to the Paatal Lok craze. When season 1 was released, I was done with the crime drama and suspense genre and had no intention of giving this series a shot despite my brother’s constant insistence.

However, one fine day, I gave in to this request and decided to watch Season 1. And let me tell you, I was flabbergasted by the performances. I literally gave a pat on my back for watching this brilliant piece of art, which I unfairly delayed for so long! But better late than never!

Naturally, I was incredibly excited for Season 2. So, here’s a sneak peek of how I found season 2.

Paatal Lok Season 2: What’s the Plot?

Well, this time, the series delves into the landscapes of Nagaland and starts with the death of Jonathan Thom (Kaguirong Gonmei), who is an influential Naga leader and is brutally murdered in Delhi. Thom’s murder endangers the proposed trade summit in the northeastern state. Amidst this, the Delhi police find a lead and circle upon a young woman named Rose Lizo (Merenla Imsong). On the other hand, Hathi Ram also finds a lead in the same case and approaches ACP Ansari (Ishwak Singh). Together, they embark on solving this mysterious case and unfold some new chapters.

What Did I Like About the Series?

Undoubtedly, it has to be the star cast starting with Ahlawat. He is shown as ruthless and impatient but emotional at heart. His overall look, especially the paunch, is unmissable, yet he manages to chase tirelessly, nabbing the culprits, sliding from roofs and having great falls. Every stance of Jaideep is so relatable, like his limp because of uric acid, his laboured breathing, his misery for not getting due credit, his heartbreak, his bonding with a small kid – everything looks so real.

Besides, the bonding and chemistry of Hathi Ram and Ansari are the highlights of Pataal Lok Season 2. Their chemistry literally steals the spotlight! But even the other actors have done a fantabulous job. Gul Panag is Hathi Ram’s frustrated wife dealing with grief because her son stays in a hostel. Her frustration and the urge to be with her son is so relatable. Then, there’s Nagesh Kukunoor as Kapil Reddy, a soft-toned bureaucrat with shades of grey.

Once the duo (Hathi Ram and Ansari) reach Nagaland, they are greeted by many characters. I must add that kudos to the casting director for impeccable casting, especially since the series is set in Nagaland. First up is Tillotama Shome, who plays the character of SP Meghna Barua. Her overall presence is simply remarkable in the series. The way she stands by her principles and gives her all in solving the case is commendable. However, her feistiness is underlined, especially when the duo tries encroaching on her turf.

Then comes Daniel (Prashant Tamang), a skilled sniper who brings intensity to the plot. Every time he appeared on screen, my heart skipped a beat because I knew he was ready to take a life. And unfortunately, he does. But to know who he targets and how it unfolds, you must watch the series. Other than these main characters, Jahnu Barua, Bendang Walling, LC Sekhose, Rozelle Mero, and others give some of the best performances.

Coming to the story, the series is gripping, and every action in the series has an equal impact, like a ripple effect. The series doesn’t shy away from showcasing the region’s harsh realities that are generally misunderstood. The series carefully exposes the political tensions faced by the people. Besides, every character has a grey shade laced to it – be it Hathi Ram, who is obviously flawed, then Uncle Ken (Jahnu Barua), or even Jonathan Thom (played by Kaguirong Gonmei and the character who gets killed at the start of the series).

Thanks to its raw and relatable narrative, this series unquestionably earns its spot as a must-watch! But what makes it even more gripping is how every character is intricately connected. The entangled relationships gradually untangle and heighten the suspense at every turn.

What I Didn’t Like About the Series?

At some point, the pace was a problem for me in Paatal Lok Season 2. I felt the episodes were a bit stretched. Some subplots took a long time to unfold and tested my patience. I am sure some viewers might disagree with me, but that’s how I like it! I want pace….

However, introducing too many characters at once made it a bit overwhelming. For instance, Tamang appears at the beginning of the series and then sporadically throughout. This made keeping track of his arc difficult, and I had to backtrack to recall where I had seen him initially. The same issue arose with several other characters—there were so many that it became challenging to remember who was who!

Most importantly, the series thrives on gritty storytelling, but at times, it was getting too overwhelming for me to digest. I was expecting a breather from the dark theme by the introduction of lighter subplots. But I guess that’s how the genre is supposed to be!

Final Verdict

Well, here’s where I wrap my review of Paatal Lok Season 2. This series is definitely bold and compelling and takes you through the scenic beauty of Nagaland. While it stumbles slightly with pacing and character overload, it makes up for it with stellar performances, breathtaking visuals, and a hard-hitting narrative. But if you are someone who loves dark themes, then this series is definitely for you. And if you are a faint-hearted individual, you can give a pass.

Dear Diary,

One of my favourite films, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” (ZNMD), has completed 13 long years… Gosh, I can’t believe it’s been 13 years. It feels like it was released just last year, and my excitement was immeasurable to witness my favourite stars. I must admit this movie taught me a lot of life lessons. It literally struck a chord not just with me but with many viewers. Also, it made Spain the most favourite place for all Indians to visit. But jokes apart, this film directed by Zoya Akhtar is one of its kind, and here’s why.

What Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Taught Me?

Before I dive in, let me give you a sneak peek of the film. Well, it follows the life of three besties – Kabir (Abhay Deol), Imran (Farhan Akhtar), and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) while they are on a road trip across Spain.

1. Step out of your comfort zone

One of the central themes of the film is the adventure each of the three friends—Kabir, Imran, and Arjun chooses. It starts with deep sea diving and moves on to skydiving and running with the bulls. As a viewer, I felt that this part of the storytelling imparts a crucial life lesson about stepping out of your comfort zone. Sometimes, we must try something different, and you will definitely witness real growth when you take on real challenges.

2. Spare some time for yourself and live in the moment

If you have seen the film, you’ll know that Arjun is a workaholic. He literally brings his work on vacation, even arranging a meeting in the middle of it. Because of this, Arjun is unable to enjoy it thoroughly. But when he meets Laila (Katrina Kaif), he learns to value time.

He finally understands the importance of balancing work and life. Laila makes him realize that changing the course of life for yourself and your happiness is important. It is essential to live in the moment. What’s the point in planning a future if you are sad in the present? Believe me, I totally agree with this philosophy.

3. Value relationships

These three friends reunite after ages, and despite their differences, the movie showcases their strong bond throughout the film. Believe me, this crazy trio’s road trip is not just a vacation but a journey that rekindles their friendship. Furthermore, it helps them understand each other better. This film reminds us to cherish our friends and make time for those relationships, no matter how busy life gets.

4. It’s best to let go

One of the key subplots in ZNMD is the tension between Imran and Arjun. Their differences have grown so significant that Arjun struggles to forget the tiff, eventually affecting their friendship. However, with time, Arjun realizes the importance of moving on, and they reconcile.

Another subplot revolves around Imran’s quest to find the truth about his father, seeking closure. Through these beautiful subplots, the film highlights the necessity of resolving past conflicts and making peace with unresolved issues. This not only provides emotional relief but also helps in moving forward with a lighter heart.

5. Overcome your fears

The three besties are all set to unravel their adventurous sides. They are all scared, but they confront and fight their fears with every sport. I feel that is the biggest lesson from the film—overcome your fears.

Whether it’s Arjun facing his fear of deep-sea diving, Imran undertaking skydiving, or all three facing a near-death experience by running with the bulls. ZNMD teaches us that facing our fears head-on can lead to personal growth and a more fulfilling life.

6. Follow your passion

Arjun’s journey in the film is a testament to the importance of following one’s passion. In the film’s first part, Arjun is a workaholic investment banker with little time for anything else.

But as the story progresses, he realizes the importance of balance and starts doing activities that make him happy, such as cooking. This serves as a reminder that while professional success is essential, it should not come at the cost of personal fulfilment.

7. Understanding your life goals

One major subplot revolves around Kabir’s life. He is about to get married, and this trip is his last as a bachelor. However, the twist is that, although he loves Natasha (Kalki Koechlin), he hasn’t proposed to her, leading to a significant misunderstanding. Additionally, she transforms into a woman dependent on Kabir, which he dislikes. Kabir wants her to be independent and true to herself.

He doesn’t like this side of her. Most importantly, he never wanted to get married but is now doing it for the sake of his family. Therefore, this movie teaches the lesson of following your own life goals. It doesn’t matter if it is difficult or hurtful—ultimately, it is your life and your decisions.

8. Don’t just enjoy the destination, but enjoy the process

One key lesson from this film is to enjoy the journey rather than focus solely on the destination. Throughout the film, it’s not about the destination or picturesque locations but the lighthearted moments.

Moments like the Tomatina festival, friendship bonding, Laila and Arjun’s romance, and many others bring a smile to your face. I believe this lesson applies to life as a whole—embracing the process and experiences along the way can be more rewarding than merely achieving the end goals.

On a Parting Note…

For me, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” is more than just a film. Instead, it’s a celebration of life and its myriad experiences. Watching the movie indeed encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, cherish relationships, live in the moment, and embrace life’s adventures. So, it is always first on the watchlist, so I literally binge-watch. Well, this is all about me. But before I sign off, let me know what you like about the film. Do comment!
