This family drama had to be on my list first. Firstly, I never thought Rahul, portrayed by Fawad Khan, would be a gay character. Secondly, the inclusion of the role and storyline would be so subtle and seamless.

Truly, the film handles the subject with tenderness, showing how familial dynamics shift when secrets come to light – a theme that is indeed relatable.

2. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

Character: Sweety Chaudhary played by Sonam Kapoor

This is one film by Sonam Kapoor that I truly loved watching – obviously after Neerja. I never knew she could pull off this character with finesse.

Well, the film follows the story of a woman struggling to express her sexuality in a conservative environment. Undoubtedly, the film’s tagline, “The most unexpected romance of the year,” speaks volumes about its trailblazing narrative.

3. Badhaai Do

Character: Shardul Thakur played by Rajkummar Rao and Sumi played by Bhumi Pednekar

Rajkummar Rao is known for pulling off any character, and in film, he does exactly that. This comedy-drama revolves around a couple, played by Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, who are in a lavender marriage.

They both have different love interests, which are well hidden from the family. The movie beautifully chronicles their struggle while managing their married life. Indeed, the film balances humour and poignant moments to advocate for acceptance.

4. Made in Heaven

Character: Karan played by Arjun Mathur

This Amazon Prime series had to be on my list of web series and movies with LGBTQ characters. The LGBTQ themes are beautifully integrated through the character of Karan, who happens to be a gay wedding planner.

His storyline explores societal prejudices and personal struggles with grace. The silver lining was the introduction of Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju as Meher Chaudhry in season 2.

5. Angry Indian Goddesses

Character: Freida De Silva played by Sarah-Jane Dias

When I first heard about this movie, I thought it would be just another portrayal of girls having fun, partying, and all that. But this film turned out to be much more.

The friends – played by Anushka Manchanda, Sandhya Mridul, Amrit Maghera, and Pavleen Gujral – come together to celebrate the bachelorette party of their friend, portrayed by Sarah-Jane Dias.

Gradually, they discover that she’s getting married to Nargis, played by Tannishtha Chatterjee. As the story unfolds, we witness their evolving friendships, hidden desires, fears, and the strength of their bond.

6. Dear Dad

Character: Nitin Swaminathan played by Arvind Swamy

I started watching this film for one reason—Arvind Swamy. I’ve been a die-hard fan since Roja, so I couldn’t miss this one. But what truly surprised me was the film’s theme, which revolves around a tender father-son relationship where the father reveals a life-changing truth about himself.

During a road trip with his teenage son, he confesses that he is gay. What follows isn’t just the shock and confusion of a son trying to process this revelation but also a heartfelt journey of acceptance, identity, and redefining what it means to be family.

The film handles this delicate subject with grace and warmth, making it an emotional yet necessary watch in today’s world.

7. Super Deluxe

Character: Shilpa aka Manickam played by Vijay Sethupathi

Recently, I started watching a lot of Tamil and Malayalam films, and I couldn’t miss watching Super Deluxe. The film tells four interwoven stories, but one story that particularly caught my attention was Shilpa’s.

The story revolves around Manickam, played by Vijay Sethupathi, who arrives from Mumbai as a transgender woman named Shilpa. Shilpa faces humiliation and harassment, but her son Rasukutty is the light at the end of the tunnel. What follows next forms the crux of this story, which is a must-watch!

8. Murder in Mahim

Character: Sunil played by Rohan Verma

This web series is based on the novel by Jerry Pinto, wherein it highlights a gripping crime thriller that explores queer identities through a series of murders in Mumbai. However, as the series progresses, you come to understand the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community.

It also reminds us about their battle to find acceptance and their hidden desires, and amidst this unfolds the emotional story between an estranged father and his gay son.

9. City of Dreams

Character: Poornima Gaikwad played by Priya Bapat

This political drama subtly touches on LGBTQ themes through character subplots portrayed by Priya Bapat. The storyline explores a lesbian relationship, challenging societal taboos.

It also highlights the internal conflicts faced by queer individuals, especially when they live under the shadow of political power and social expectations.

10. Taali

Character: Gauri played by Sushmita Sen

I was so excited about this film because it stars Sushmita Sen. Well, the film is based on the life of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, played by Sushmita Sen.

The film highlights the biographical drama showcasing her struggles, societal resistance, and fierce advocacy for transgender rights, especially in securing the right to motherhood and dignity.

11. Brokeback Mountain

Character: Ennis Del Mar played by Heath Ledger and Jack Twist by Jake Gyllenhaal

Indeed, it is one of the best movies with LGBTQ characters. I especially liked this film because it featured my favourite actors – Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, and, of course, Anne Hathaway too.

Directed by Ang Lee, this groundbreaking film follows the emotional and forbidden romance between two cowboys over two decades. Every frame and act is just superlative as it explores repression, longing, and the costs of living a closeted life in a conservative society.

12. Laurence Anyways

Character: Laurence played by Melvil Poupaud

I watched this film at a film festival around 2013. For me, the concept of transgender women was new. Although I was aware of it, there was never an open dialogue, and moreover, it was marred by misconceptions.

However, this film opened my eyes and changed my perspective. I feel I started to understand the internal conflicts of the LGBTQ community – maybe not much, but at least a little.

The film chronicles the decade-long journey of a transgender woman and her relationship with her girlfriend. The film brought tears to my eyes because it is an emotionally stunning and visually captivating portrayal of the pain, beauty, and resilience of gender transition and love.

13. The Danish Girl

Character: Lili Elbe played by Eddie Redmayne

This movie was recommended to me by many friends, and alas, when I watched it, it left me awestruck. After watching this film, I realised what a fantastic actor Eddie Redmayne is.

This historical drama tells the story of Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of gender confirmation surgery. The film explores the complexities of identity, transformation, and acceptance, with a profound emotional core centred on love and partnership.

14. The Imitation Game

Character: Alan Turing played by Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch won my heart through his portrayal of Sherlock, and hence, I had to watch The Imitation Game, which focuses on mathematician Alan Turing.

The film highlights the tragic injustice he faced for being gay despite his invaluable contributions to WWII. It’s a powerful reminder of the societal prejudice against LGBTQ individuals, even in the face of brilliance.

15. Boys Don’t Cry

Character: Brandon Teena played by Hilary Swank

Last on the list of web series and movies with LGBTQ characters is Boys Don’t Cry. While watching this film, be sure to have a box of tissues nearby. It is based on the life of Brandon Teena, portrayed by Hilary Swank, a trans man brutally murdered in Nebraska.

The humiliation, the themes of gender identity, violence, and the desperate need for acceptance are heart-wrenching to watch. Hilary Swank is outstanding in the film, which is why her performance earned her an Academy Award.

16. Qissa

Character: Kanwar played by Tillotama Shome

This film is a must-watch for sure! Directed by Anup Singh, Qissa is a haunting Punjabi-language drama set in post-Partition India. It tells the story of Umber Singh played by Irrfan Khan, a Sikh patriarch obsessed with having a male heir.

When his fourth child is born a girl, he raises her as a boy, naming her Kanwar played by the talented Tillotama Shome. As Kanwar grows up grappling with identity, love, and truth, the film unfolds into a powerful exploration of gender dysphoria, parental control, and societal denial.

Qissa is both poetic and tragic—an unforgettable tale of a soul torn between who it is and what the world demands it to be.

17. Maja Ma

Character: Pallavi Patel played by Madhuri Dixit

I never expected Madhuri Dixit to take up such a bold role. I grew up watching her dance and play romantic roles, but this film reveals a different side of her acting. Well, Maja Ma revolves around a seemingly traditional homemaker who comes out as a lesbian.

The film challenges stereotypes, explores self-realisation later in life, and highlights the emotional and societal complexities of being queer in a conservative family setting. Although the movie was a dud, it is included in this list because of Madhuri.

I often find myself lost in fictional worlds that look so real. I have realised that dystopian movies and series have this haunting effect on me. After every movie I watch, I feel that humanity is cracking and diminishing in slow motion.

They are entertaining, eye-opening, and whisper truths, but they can also be disturbing and provoking. Thus, with this thought, I felt like penning down such movies and series that have left an impact on me. Instead, they have taught me a lesson that if we are not careful, things can take an absurd turn.

Dystopian Movies and Series That Intend to Warn Us

Put on your seatbelts as you are all set to glimpse the cruel future.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road

Every time I watch this film, my heart is literally in my throat. I must highlight that this movie is not for the faint-hearted. It is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland ruled by tyrants who oppress people for food and water.

While watching every scene, you will definitely feel an adrenaline rush because of the heart-thumping music, crazy cinematography, and brilliant action sequences. Amidst this are the two prime characters—Max (Tom Hardy) and Furiosa (Charlize Theron), and their struggle for survival is terrifying yet fascinating.

2. Westworld

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here and it is all set to rule us, and that’s exactly what Westworld is all about. The series revolves around a fictional and technologically advanced themed amusement park populated by android “hosts.”

The park is meant for high-paying guests who can indulge in their wildest fantasies without getting harmed by the hosts – because they are programmed in that way.

Later on, the series takes a massive turn, and the conflict between the creators and the creation, the fight between freedom and control, starts. It is a heart-wrenching tale, especially watching it in the world of AI.

3. The Last of Us

What if the world is grappled with a deadly fungal infection, and very few humans are left to survive? Sounds creepy, right? I had exactly the same feeling while watching this series.

The cities have crumbled, and there’s no life left, but amidst all the darkness is the bond of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), which brought tears to my eyes. The second season of this series was recently released, and I am all geared up to watch it.

4. A Quiet Place

This movie is a stark reminder that silence can have loud repercussions. A Quiet Place revolves around a world where the aliens have captured Earth and are sensitive to sound, which can lead to death.

Hence, the movie’s name because even a whisper is equivalent to death. Thus, watching the family’s silent struggle to survive, I realised how we ignore the power of sound and connection. Imagine living in a world where a monster cannot see but hear you.  

5. The Island

This movie made me awestruck, literally. It revolves around a place where residents have to live under strict rules. They are told that the outside world is highly contaminated and they are safe only in the facility.

However, there is a lottery every week, and whoever wins gets a chance to step out of the facility – the island. Gradually, you get to know the dark secrets of these residents and the island. I cannot reveal much because there’s no fun in it. You gotta watch it to know all about it.

6. Dune Movie Series

I just cannot miss having this name on the list of dystopian movies and series. The start of this movie seems slow, but later, when it catches pace, it’s thrilling to watch the happenings. The Dune saga is set thousands of years in the future of the human race.

The film revolves around the endless desert of the planet Arrakis, where a rare substance called “spice” is gold. This substance is so powerful that it fuels space travel and extends life. The person who controls spice has control over the universe.

At the heart of this battle is Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who is pulled into the world of war, betrayal, and prophecy. As great houses fight for power, Paul uncovers his destiny, which can either make or break the universe.

7. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

What if humans were not at the top of the pyramid? Planet of the Apes movie series showcases a world where apes have evolved and taken over the human race. In this, I especially love the premise of Rise of the Planet of the Apes starring James Franco and Frieda Pinto.

The film revolves around a young ape named Caesar who inherits his mother’s intelligence. The reason is that a drug meant to cure Alzheimer’s is tested on her, which increases her intelligence.

As Caesar grows, he becomes highly intelligent, but he is taken to an animal shelter, where he meets other apes. What happens next, and what’s in the next series? To know this, you must watch the movie series.

But let me tell you, the film series highlights that humans are outsiders, and power can corrupt any species—not just humans.

8. In Time

Imagine stopping ageing at 25 and having a timer on your forearm that highlights how much time you have left to live. As soon as the timer reaches zero, time out, and you are dead. Scary, isn’t it?

That’s the premise of In Time, where time is the currency and New Greenwich is the wealthiest area where the residents are immortal. In order to safeguard time, the rich keep increasing the prices for the poor to die.

Fortunately, Will Salas (Justin Timberlake), a factory worker from the poorest time zone Dayton, gains more time than he ever imagined. But soon, he faces the cruelty of the system and becomes a rebel to expose it.

While watching this film, I literally felt how harsh the world is to the oppressed and how poorly we value our lives. The world is an unfair place where survival is sold to the highest bidder.  

9. WALL-E

In this, Earth has gone silent, uninhabited, forgotten by humans and covered in trash. And in these ruins lives a tiny robot named WALL-E, who cleans up the mess one at a time and has lost hope in loneliness.

However, one day, a robot named EVE lands on Earth and WALL-E’s life changes. Thereafter, the journey begins to save the human race. Interestingly, the movie highlights some crucial topics like sedentary lifestyle, adverse human-environmental impact, waste management, etc.

10. Z for Zachariah

Last but not least in the dystopian movies and series is Z for Zachariah. The film revolves around only three characters: Ann Burden (Margot Robbie), John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor), and Caleb (Chris Pine).

Ann survives a nuclear apocalypse and thinks she is the sole survivor. However, she meets another survivor, John, and they quickly bond. Soon, a third survivor – Caleb enters, and what begins as hope quickly turns into jealousy, mistrust, and survival.

The film is not about rebuilding the world but holding onto the last pieces of the human race. This film taught me how bonding is important along with survival.

One thing that these dystopian movies and series have taught me is the grim future. These movies aren’t about escapism; they are warnings in disguise, which can become a strange kind of hope if we decide to look at it that way. Because though the world ends, love, loyalty, and the fight for survival stay forever.

Gone are the days when Hindi Film Industry would make fun of gay characters. Boys were always portrayed wearing pink or walking like girls. But times have changed. We as a society are progressing, and that can be witnessed by the kind of LGBTQ movies and web series that are being made.

I know we live in a very conservative society, where the LGBTQ community is still tagged as “abnormal,” but I don’t think it is so! I have so many friends who belong to this community, and I am very proud of them. Interestingly, June month is commemorated as PRIDE MONTH. So, I thought, why not list some of the best LGBTQ movies and web series I adore?

I believe movies are the best medium for experiencing life. Most importantly, the representation of LGBTQ characters and stories in movies and web series has significantly improved over the years.

Undoubtedly, both Hindi and English entertainment industries have produced remarkable content that highlights diverse experiences within the LGBTQ community. Believe me, these stories that I am listing are filled with love, struggle, triumph, and self-discovery and offer insightful perspectives. So, let’s get going.

Best LGBTQ Movies and Web Series to Add to Your Watchlist

1.      Gulmohar

This movie has to be first on my list. A yesteryear actress Sharmila Tagore portraying the role of a queer woman is a must-watch. Her effortless acting and her expressions are priceless. Not just her but Manoj Bajpayee, Simran, and other actors have done an outstanding job.

2.      The Imitation Game

This film features my favorite actor, Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie is a real-life story about cryptanalyst Alan Turing, who was a homosexual. According to Wikipedia, he is widely considered the father of theoretical computer science. However, his sexuality was the reason behind his death. And I am sure this movie will bring tears to your eyes.

3.      Rainbow Rishta

My most favourite web series of all time is Rainbow Rishta. It is a docu-series with real-life characters, and you have to watch this series. I am sure it will melt your heart. You can also read my detailed review right here.

4.      Brokeback Mountain

Many friends had recommended this movie, but I don’t know I missed watching it. Finally, when I did, it left me numb. First, there’s Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal—both stellar actors. Besides, they are supported by Michelle Williams and Anne Hathway, who have done a stupendous job.

The movie narrates the story of Elio and Oliver’s passionate summer romance in the Italian countryside. Believe me, the film beautifully captures the complexities of first love and self-discovery. BTW have a box of tissues by your side. I am pretty sure you are going to need that watching this emotionally touching movie.

5.      Aligarh

You must start with Aligarh if you haven’t watched Manoj Bajpayee’s films. There is something about real-life stories. And if Hansal Mehta directs them, they have to be outstanding. Well, coming back to Aligarh, it is based on the true story of a professor at Aligarh Muslim University – Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras.

He was suspended because of his sexual orientation. Thus, it unravels discrimination and the right to privacy. Every scene will give you goosebumps for sure.

6.      Murder In Mahim

I assure you, this is one of the best web series on the list. The web series chronicles a murder investigation in Mumbai. It also highlights the lives of LGBTQ characters and the way they lead their lives amidst societal prejudice and maintain secrecy.

The series promises to be a gripping crime thriller with significant LGBTQ representation. It is a must-watch, especially one scene where the parents accept the child’s sexuality with an open heart. Trust me, it will bring tears to your eyes.

7.      Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

After Neerja, this is one Sonam Kapoor film that I totally like. The film, directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar, tells the story of Sweety, a young woman who struggles to come out to her conservative family.

Sonam Kapoor in her non-glamorous avatar is a treat for the eyes, but her acting deserves all the applause. Believe me, I did not expect much from her, but she surpassed my expectations. This is one of the best films of her career!

8.      Boys Don’t Cry

When I think of this film, I realize how cruel the world is. We blame the developing countries as conventional, but no – the LGBTQ community had a hard time in a developed nation, too!

Directed by Kimberly Peirce, this biographical film tells the story of Brandon Teena, an American transgender man who falls victim to a brutal hate crime. Hilary Swank as Brandon Teena has given a powerful performance. No doubt she earned an Academy Award for her role.

9.      Dear Dad

What if one fine day, you wake up, and your dad informs you that he is Gay? Shocking, right? That’s exactly the theme of Arvind Swamy’s Dear Dad. I fell in love with him after watching Roja and Bombay. But all that adoration just multiplied with this film. The film is about introspection, revelation, and a beautiful father-son bond.

10.  Badhaai Do

When Rajkummar Rao is in the lead, I doubt the movie will ever tank. I mean, he has had his share of bad films, but this film is superb. Both Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar represent the LGBTQ community, but for the world, they are a heterosexual couple. They both are in relationships with other people, but what happens when their family finds out? For that, you must watch the film.

11.  Kapoor and Sons

The list of best LGBTQ movies and web series is incomplete if I fail to mention this film. A child is the apple of the eye of his parents until he follows their dreams and passion. However, once his identity of being gay is revealed, he becomes the villain of the family.

That’s how we are conditioned, as per the rules of society. Kapoor and Sons follows the story of a dysfunctional family. The story of Rahul Kapoor (Fawad Khan) narrates the plight of the LGBTQ community – especially the struggle to win acceptance of the family.  

12.  Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

There are many films and web series that highlight same-sex couples. But very few talk about transgender people, and one of them is Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. The film revolves around Manu (Ayushmann Khurrana), who runs a gym but fails to attract clients.

However, one day, he employs Zumba instructor Maanvi (Vaani Kapoor), and the tables turn. However, Maanvi is a transwoman, and when Manu knows the truth – what he does is something you must watch yourself.

It’s Valentine’s Day already, and I gear up yet again to celebrate this special day with great aplomb. Growing up, I watched romantic movies, thinking all those stories were true in real life. But I was wrong. Suddenly, an era dawned where filmmakers started directing more realistic movies that included heartbreaks, cheating, abuse, etc. However, I still love watching those romantic love tales. Hence, I decided to compile a list of romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s Day.

My Personal Favorite Romantic Movies To Watch On Valentine’s Day

Before I kickstart this journey, let me share that these movies are a blend of both regional and English films. So, feel free to choose any that pique your interest, and remember—we now have ‘subtitles.’ Just kidding, let’s dive in.

Sita Ramam

The buzz around this movie was undeniable, and now I understand why. It stands out as one of the best romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s Day but be warned—you’ll need a box of tissues by your side. It’s also among the most emotional films I’ve encountered recently.

Originally, in Telugu, don’t let language be a barrier, as we have subtitles to bridge the gap. And don’t worry, the performances of the lead actors, Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur, are so powerful they’ll move you to tears all on their own.

If you adore the couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza—and I’m sure you do—then this film is an absolute must-watch. Fortunately, they’ve returned to the silver screen together after a long hiatus. Watching a couple who is madly in love with each other in real life grace the big screen again is truly a blessing.

Their chemistry, presence, and acting are simply outstanding. Genelia’s proficiency in Marathi was a revelation to me; she has breathed life into her role with such vibrancy. As for Riteish, words fail to capture his performance adequately. Released in both Hindi and Marathi, this movie is a must-watch for any romantic movie enthusiast.

Satyaprem Ki Katha

Kartik Aaryan, an outsider in the Hindi film industry, has certainly managed to captivate audiences with some of his visually appealing and intriguing films. Known for fitting perfectly into the ‘chocolate boy’ persona, his role in ‘Satyaprem ki Katha’ stands out as refreshingly unique compared to his typical characters.

In this film, he portrays a die-hard lover who also champions women’s rights—not just in words but through his actions, embodying the change our society yearns for. Amidst this is woven a beautiful romantic love story that’s absolutely unmissable.

Kiara Advani, as usual, showcases her acting prowess and truly shines, making her performance a highlight of the film. This is my personal favorite among romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s Day.

Hi Nanna

Prepare for a ’tissue paper affair’ with this movie. From the moment it started, I was caught in an emotional whirlwind, sometimes crying out of happiness and, at others, sadness. But through it all, this film completely won my heart. ‘Hi Nanna’ is a Telugu-language romantic drama featuring Nani and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles.

However, it’s the little sweetheart Kiara Khanna who steals the show. She’s the cutest soul who will make you fall in love with love itself. Mrunal Thakur is a vision of elegance on screen, bringing a blissful presence with her acting. And Nani, as always, is a heartthrob, captivating with every scene. This movie is a must-watch, but remember, don’t forget to keep a box of tissues by your side.  

Me Before You

Not all love stories end with ‘happily ever after.’ In fact, not all stories conclude with the boy getting the girl. This film beautifully illustrates that reality. It might not fit the traditional mold of a romantic film, but it offers so much more. Love isn’t just about spending time together; often, actions can speak louder than words.

Experiencing these profound themes was made possible by the remarkable performances of the leading stars, Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. Having seen Emilia portray the fearless Daenerys Targaryen, I could only picture her in such a role. However, this film allowed me to discover her romantic side, showcasing her versatility as an actress. This is undoubtedly a must-watch romantic movie for Valentine’s Day.

Blue Valentine

Some stories don’t always have sweet endings, and ‘Blue Valentine’ is a prime example of that. Watching this film left me speechless. The lead stars, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams deliver performances that are nothing short of outstanding.

This movie just recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. OMG, I can’t believe my favorite has completed such a successful stint—and it absolutely deserves all the love and acclaim. I initially watched this film in the theater without any expectations, and wow, it completely bowled me over. Since then, I catch it every time it’s on TV, having watched it more than 50 times by now.

This film stands out as my all-time favorite romantic movie featuring Parineeti Chopra, and Sidharth Malhotra is just as charming. But it’s not just about the lead pair; the entire cast has delivered outstanding performances. Given the chance, I’d happily continue to watch it—maybe even for the 100th time!

Chandramukhi

I’ve always believed that some emotions are best captured by regional cinema. That’s why the first two recommendations on my list of romantic movies to watch on Valentine’s Day are indeed regional films. In Hindi cinema, I often encounter a touch of overacting and excessive drama.

In contrast, regional films embrace more realism and are set in authentic environments. One standout example is ‘Chandramukhi,’ which delves into the romance between a Tamasha singer and dancer named Chandra and a rising politician, Daulat.

Their love story is compelling, enhanced by the film’s soothing music. While I haven’t always been a big fan of Adinath Kothare, his performance in this film is commendable. And as usual, Amruta Khanvilkar radiates divine beauty, continuing to captivate me with her talent.

In this movie, she truly is a blessing. Above all, the chemistry between the leads is simply WOW, making ‘Chandramukhi’ a must-watch for anyone looking to explore the depths of love through cinema.

As for the film’s premise, it’s beautifully crafted and unfolds in completely unexpected ways.

It was remade in Hindi as ‘Dil Bechara,’ starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput. While ‘Dil Bechara‘ was beautiful and touching, it didn’t quite capture the profound emotional depth of the original.

Importantly, if you can watch this film without shedding a tear, then, my friend, you may need to question your status as a die-hard romantic. This film is guaranteed to make you cry, not just from sadness but from joy as well. The actors have done an outstanding job of captivating the audience, weaving a story that touches the heart most profoundly.

This movie is a heart-wrenching tale of a father and son. It is based on the true story of Christopher Paul Gardner, portrayed by Will Smith, and his son, – Christopher Gardner, Jr., is played by Smith’s real-life son, Jaden Smith. And I think it is the best decision ever.

I must admit the film struck a chord deep within my heart. This heart-wrenching yet inspiring tale of a struggling father’s unwavering determination to provide his son with a better life showcased the human spirit’s strength. It reminded me that hope and perseverance can lead to triumph, even in adversity.

2. Room

I watched this movie and realized how beautiful my life is because people go through limitless turmoil while we are protected in our cocoons. This movie is based on the novel of the same name and stars Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay.

It revolves around the captivity story of a mother-son duo, their escape plan, and life after that. Believe me, it is one of those emotionally touching movies that will want you to keep a box of tissues by your side throughout.

3. 12 Years A Slave

If you know the protest of Black Lives Matter, then you can relate to it. But you will be astonished to know it has happened since the 1800s. Things were ruthless then and even now. Well, the movie follows the true story of Solomon Northup, the son of a freed slave and a free woman of color.

He was a farmer and a professional violinist, and his job took him to places. But one day, he was kidnapped and sold as a slave. The story talks about his freedom struggle. Believe me, this is the saddest film I have ever seen, and after that, I fell in love with Chiwetel Ejiofor, who portrays Solomon.

4. The Terminal

When it is Tom Hanks, the movie has to be top-notch, isn’t it? Undoubtedly, he is my favorite actor, so this movie had to be on the list. So, this film follows the story of Viktor Navorski, portrayed by Hanks, from a fictional nation called Krakozhia.

Unfortunately, he gets stuck at the John F. Kennedy Airport terminal, and the story unravels. The movie has both funny and heart-touching moments. I am sure you will fall in love with his beautiful soul, “Viktor.”

5. Boys Don’t Cry

This film is not only disturbing, but it is a very heart-wrenching story. I just couldn’t stop crying seeing the story of Brandon Teena – a trans man who was brutally raped and murdered in 1993. This movie completely belongs to Hilary Swank, who also won an Oscar for this movie. Undoubtedly, she deserves all the accolades because her acting is stupendous.

6. Million Dollar Baby

The next in line is another hit number by Hillary Swank. But not just her; this movie is a power-packed combination of stars as it stars Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman. Imagine the awesomeness in one frame!

Well, this film follows the story of Margaret “Maggie” Fitzgerald (Swank), a waitress and amateur boxer. She wants to make it big in the boxing world and is helped by a trainer (Eastwood) to achieve her dream. What happens next is something you must watch for yourself! Indeed, one of the most emotionally touching movies.

7. Lion

Lion is a real-life story of a 5-year-old Indian boy named Saroo (played by Sunny Pawar as a child and Dev Patil as an adult) and his journey to find his roots and family. He accidentally separates from his mother and is later adopted by an Australian couple.

He gets flashes of childhood, and hence, with the help of Google Earth, he manages to find his biological mother. Believe me – the moment of the reunion will leave you spellbound. I had to ask my husband to pass the tissues constantly!

8. Titanic

Need a good cry, this film is for you. We know the legendary film and cannot miss the love story of Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet). The film Titanic was made in 1997 but continues to be evergreen. Whenever it is playing on television, believe me, I never miss it!

9. Eight Below

I have immense cynophobia (fear of dogs). I can’t stand them around me. So, if my friends are reading this list, they’ll be shocked to see this film on the list. But when it comes to movies, I am not scared, obviously, and Eight Below is one of my favorites.

This movie follows the story of eight sled dogs left behind after an expedition. Soon, harsh weather strikes the area, and the rescue mission is aborted. Everyone believes that the dogs are dead. But the story is something else, so you must watch this emotionally touching movie. You will not only love the dogs but also the movie.

10. The Vow

What do I say about this film? It’s just WOW! This movie is inspired by the real-life story of a couple named Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. Ten weeks after their wedding, the couple got involved in a grave car accident, after which Krickitt suffered brain injuries that led to memory loss.

After that, she had no memories of her husband and marriage. But what follows next and how they cross paths is something that you should witness yourself. The names in the movie are changed, but the actors Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum have done an astounding job.

11. Southpaw

This movie follows a story about a boxer transforming from riches to rags. Sounds cliché, right? But it isn’t about his fight alone because it has one more angle – his daughter played by Oona Laurence. After his wife is killed, alcohol, drugs, and depression consume him.

His daughter is put under the care of Child Protective Services because he is tagged “unfit.” And then the real story kickstarts. This is an emotionally touching movie because the father-daughter bonding is tearful and heart-wrenching.
