Dear Diary,
What comes into your mind when you read the title, “Do You Wanna Partner”? A romantic saga or something that talks about relationships? Yes, I had exactly the same notion, and that got me curious to watch this series. And this light-hearted series was a nice watch. Let me elaborate more about it.
Do You Wanna Partner – What’s the Plot?
The series revolves around two friends – Shikha (Tamannaah Bhatia) and Anahita (Diana Penty) – who are unhappy with their professional lives. They both come together and decide to start their own craft beer. Reason – Shikha’s father, played by Indraneil Sengupta, always wanted to have his own brand of craft beer. However, he fails.
Hence, Shikha always wanted to fulfil his dream. Soon, both friends come together, and the real struggle begins in a male-dominated industry filled with dubious families, cynical investors, and competitive hurdles.
However, with many obstacles, they finally find a brewmaster, Bobby (Nakuul Mehta), and the brewing begins, and “Jugaaro” is born. Gradually, the girls encounter a series of problems, and one of them is Laila, a loan shark played by Shweta Tiwari.
The problem cycle doesn’t end here. Their personal differences, ego, love life, and finances create a ruckus in the friendship. But how they navigate through all these problems forms the crux of the series.
The special appearance of Anupam Mittal in the show is like icing on the cake!
What Did I Like About The Series?
For me, the best part of the series is the bonding between the leads and the storyline. Their banter never felt forceful. Instead, even the smallest moments between them carried a natural charm. However, the second best part about the series is Jaaved Jaaferi, who plays the role of Dylan Thomas.
His presence shows that a seasoned actor can make a difference onscreen. Every time he appeared, I was so happy to see him because he made a difference in the storyline. I’m absolutely thrilled about OTT platforms! They’ve given incredible actors like Jaaved Jaaferi a second chance to show the world how truly power-packed their talent is.
Apart from this, the struggle of newbies in this competitive world is real, and the series “Do You Wanna Partner” beautifully highlights the same. Loved the humour in the series, which has a tinge of sarcasm. I feel people should watch the struggles that go into building a business.
But you know what, the surprise package amidst this is Diana Penty. Frankly, I always found her acting monotonous, and she always portrayed serious roles. But this role was meant for her, and she has done a fabulous job. From being serious and competitive to a loving friend, she expresses her emotions, and it is good to watch!
And then, not to forget, there’s Neeraj Kabi too, who plays a ruthless and competitive business tycoon. There’s one scene that stuck with me, and here it is!
What I Didn’t Like About The Series?
In the above section, I focused on the positive aspects of Do You Wanna Partner and mentioned a few characters. However, there are more talented actors like Shweta Tiwari, Rannvijay Singha, and Ayesha Raza, whose performances are noteworthy but unfortunately reduced to meagre roles.
Yes, and sometimes the plot tends to stretch unnecessarily. The show also emphasises how newbies can be illogical and impulsive. But honestly, I don’t think that any entrepreneur with that much experience would make such obvious blunders. Even if it is done for fun, I accept, but that looks extremely forceful.
And frankly, I was not impressed with Tamannaah Bhatia’s acting. It looks monotonous throughout the series. Also, I was never a fan of Nakuul Mehta since his “television” days, and even in this series, he failed to impress. I feel his acting is stretched and over-the-top.
As I mentioned, the supporting cast had the potential to shine, but the makers never gave them the chance or the depth. Most of them looked like props rather than people with their own stories to tell. Some of the scenes and situations were damn predictable.
Also, the storyline is new and refreshing but it could have been better.
Final Verdict
Do You Wanna Partner is a fun, breezy watch that showcases, “life shouldn’t be taken seriously.” Therefore, if you are someone who doesn’t want to invest too much mental strength and is looking for a light watch, watch this series.
It is undoubtedly not perfect, and frankly, I had a lot of expectations because women-centric movies and series are my favourite. Besides, I am already aware of the negative reviews this series is receiving. Still, it is a comfort watch—a break from the serious and gore-filled content that’s prevalent on the internet.
